In August, the Head of Xbox Phil Spencer teased the idea of Xbox One backwards compatibility extending to the original Xbox. Now Xbox has come out to provide an update on the process that has for their team has proven to be “very challenging.”

Director of program Mike Ybarra recently stated on The Inner Circle Podcast that the team is not currently looking at original Xbox games on the Xbox One yet. “Right now the focus is making more 360 games work,” Ybarra stated, “but I would say that nothing is impossible,”

Ybarra would continue during the podcast that the process of getting the Xbox 360 incredibly challenging for their team. “really a multi-year engineering investment going all the way back to the original certainly would challenge the team,” Ybarra added. “We’re fortunate enough to have a great engineering team, who loves to take on challenges.”

The love of challenges is something the world experienced when Microsoft released the new Xbox One system update. The update overhauled the dashboard and added backward compatibility for Xbox 360 games. Fans would love the ability to play original Xbox games on their Xbox One’s, but would prefer to have more games released for backwards compatibility.
