Early today IGN reported that before the close of the studio, Lionhead was working on a Fable-branded digital card game titled Fable Fortune. Development began 18 months before the end of the studio, and now Microsoft has given their blessings to a team of former developers from Lionhead Studio. The seek funding for the game the new studio, Flaming Fowl Studios, is looking to Kickstarter to help fund the upcoming title.
Flaming Fowl Studios opened their indie development doors co-founded by Lionhead veterans Craig Oman, Mike West and Marcus Lynn. Their primary purpose of creating the new studio was to finished the game they started as a team at Lionhead.
Finishing the game doesn’t isn’t going to be as simple as it is sounding. Microsoft has given their blessing to continue to use the Fable license but, they are not able if they try to work with another publisher. That is why the new team at Flaming Fowl is turning to Kickstarter to help publish their game.
The Kickstarter campaign begins on Tuesday, May 31 at 3:00 pm EST and will run for four weeks. The team is looking to raise 250,000 during the Kickstarter program, and other stretch goals planned beyond the end of the campaign.
Flaming Fowl expects a Fable Fortune closed beta before the Kickstarter campaign is closed, and an open beta available for the Xbox One and PC in October. The full release of the game is expected in early 2017.
The excitement of this release isn’t merely for a new developer but that the Fable franchise will continue developed with members of the same team that created Fable in the past.
